Burda Renaissance Pattern
This project is a renaissance dress I decided to make after watching the tv show "The Borgias. I was mainly inspired by the costumes from this show, but since I wasn’t really comfortable with drawing my own patterns yet when I first started this dress, it is largely based on the Burda renaissance pattern. I started this project in September 2016 and finished it in November 2016, but during the 2018 summer vacation, I decided to improve it a bit.
The Borgias- SHOWTIME Original Series
baptiste chemise and corset
Almost two years after I originally made this costume, I decided it needed some improvements. First of all I changed the fit because it was a bit too big for me and added lining to give it more support. The sleeves were also to long and I didn't quite like how they looked so in the end I changed the forearms completely to make them look more accurate to what I saw in the TV show.
The dress is made out of red velour and decorated with two accent fabrics, some gold trim and beads. I also made a white chemise out of baptiste to go underneath the actual dress. The chemise is mostly invisible when the dress is worn but you can see it a little bit through the holes in the sleeves where the elbows are. Since the dress itself has no boning in it, I had to make a corset as well to keep everything structured.

2018 improvements
After watching the Borgias, I got really interested in the hair nets that the female characters wear. I decided to make one to go with this dress. I made the hair net just after completing the dress in 2016, but I couldn’t find any net that looked good for this project so I ended up making the net myself by tying 40 meters of string together.
