Anastasia ice skating dress
March 2019
inspired by the musical "Anastasia"
Original design
This project is my second ice skating dress, that I wore at my 2019 ice skating exam. For this exam, I skated to the song “journey to the past” from the musical “Anastasia” which is why I decided to base my dress on one of the costumes from this musical.

The prettiest blue sparkles!
The body of the dress is made out of a stretch dark blue velvet and for the skirt I chose a transparent blue lycra with a lot of sparkles. The dress was then decorated with different sized silver rhinestones, either attached directly on the dress or on small ribbons. These separate ribbons with rhinestones give the dress a bit more movement when worn on the ice.

Like my other ice skating dress, the main challenge of this project was that it had to be elegant and beautiful but also very flexible and comfortable, and mostly that I had to be able to perform my skating program in this dress. Because of this, I had to compromise a bit on the design, but in the end, the dress looked stunning and I was able to perform in it without any problem.

A lot of rhinestones!
The silhouette and the rhinestone pattern was inspired by Anastasia's blue dress, but I also wanted to incorporate the train at the back of the dress in some way. Of course, I couldn’t put a train on my dress, because it would be impossible to skate with, so instead I added a strip of fabric to each side of the dress that would fall of the shoulder. This way I could skate freely but also have a little reminder of Anastasia’s beautiful train.
